Certifications

U.S. Barrier Surveying Co. offers a Certificate of ADA Compliance for buildings and facilities located in all 50 of the United States.

We also provide certification of buildings and facilities located in those states that have their own unique accessibility codes which have been certified by the U.S. Dept. of Justice as being equivalent to the federal law. Currently they include Florida, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, Texas and Washington. Call USBS for complete details about getting certified in these states.

U.S. Barrier Surveying Co. offers two certification categories for buildings and facilities:

Certification of a New Place of a Public Accommodation or Commercial Facility:

Certificate of ADA Compliance - New Building or Facility

Issued for a building or facility that was constructed generally on or after January 26th, 1993. Certification in this category will require a USBS ADA Barrier Survey and will include application of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for new construction. This certificate may be valid for a period of up to 10 years from the Date of Issuance (visit the Warranty Division for details).

Certification in this category is your assurance that the new building or facility has:

 
bulletReceived a thorough onsite ADA Barrier Survey provided by USBS.
bulletReceived a final review (verification of corrective modifications) to verify completion of remedial work, if modifications were required by our initial survey.
bulletAchieved compliance with the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for new construction.
bulletUndergone a rigorous pre-certification quality check that includes a thorough review by the Survey Coordinator, Survey Manager or Plan Manager, and the USBS Certification and Warranty Review Board.
bulletReceived final approval by the USBS Certification and Warranty Review Board.

USBS also offers Certificate of ADA Compliance that is valid only on the Date of Issuance (at such time that compliance has been noted as the result of a USBS survey, or corrective modifications or remediation resulting from a USBS survey has been successfully completed. This is an excellent option for companies that need proof of compliance (as part of deliverables) prior to project closeout.

Certification of an Existing Place of a Public Accommodation or Commercial Facility:

Certificate of ADA Compliance - Existing Building or Facility

Issued for a building or facility that was either constructed before January 26th, 1992, or where an alteration occurred after that date. Certification in this category will require a USBS ADA Barrier Survey and will include implementation of the requirements established by the U.S. Dept. of Justice for the readily removable barriers, or application of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for alterations. This certificate may be valid for a period of up to 5 years from the Date of Issuance (visit the Warranty Division for details).

Certification in this category is your assurance that the building or facility has:

bulletReceived a thorough onsite ADA Barrier Survey provided by USBS.
bulletSuccessfully completed ADA remedial work resulting from the survey, or
bulletSuccessfully completed a Barrier Removal Plan managed by USBS.
bulletReceived a final review (verification of corrective modifications) to verify completion of remedial work, if modifications were required by our initial survey.
bulletAchieved compliance with either the U.S. Dept. of Justice's requirement for the removal of readily achievable architectural barriers in a place of public accommodation or commercial facility, or
bulletAchieved compliance with the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for alterations to an existing building or facility.
bulletUndergone a rigorous pre-certification quality check that includes a thorough review by the Survey Coordinator, Survey Manager or Plan Manager, and the USBS Certification and Warranty Review Board.
bulletReceived final approval by the USBS Certification and Warranty Review Board.

Certifications are not available for buildings or facilities that are the subject of any current or pending law suits relating to violations of the ADA or any other accessibility related code, unless prior arrangements have been made with USBS.

Certifications are available for new and existing buildings and facilities and for multi-site national programs under same ownership.

Our ADA Certifications may assist building and facility owners in minimizing the likelihood of claims of ADA violations. In the event of a complaint of non compliance to the Department of Justice, the existence of a Certificate may very well satisfy the complainant or the Department of your compliance. USBS will stand behind our Certificates of ADA Compliance and will provide expert testimony that the Certificate meets the ADA barrier removal requirements in any litigation.

 

Certification Renewals

Annual ADA Certification Health Check-Up

The Owners of certified Buildings and Facilities have the option of participating in our Annual ADA Certification Health Check-Up program as a condition of the Warranty.

Authorization of Agent

Owners that desire to designate an Authorized Agent, to do business with USBS on their behalf, will need to complete and submit an Authorization of Agent form.
